Our journey began over 40 years ago when Ashani Walia, driven by a deep love for food and family, migrated from New Zealand to Melbourne. Struggling to find the rich, vibrant flavors of true Indian cooking, Ashani was inspired to bring the tastes of his childhood to life. Coming from a large family where meals were crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients, he knew the value of authenticity and warmth in every dish.

With unwavering support from his wife, Rekha, Ashani opened his first restaurant in Richmond, blending family traditions with his newfound hospitality vision. His dedication to quality and genuine hospitality led the family to expand into Regional Victoria, opening multiple successful restaurants throughout the Macedon Ranges. It was here that Ashani’s greatest strength—his family—became the heart of the business. Their children, Richa, Priyanka, and Rohan, grew up in the industry, forming lasting relationships with customers and local suppliers, helping the family business thrive.

In 2016, seeking to be closer to home and their community, the Walia family brought Divine Indian to Keilor Road. Today, Ashani, Rekha, and their children continue to pour their hearts into every aspect of the restaurant, working alongside an exceptional team that feels just like family.
